She said, "I'm not sure how this'll turn out . All this stress I can do without. And you know I've got my doubts. I just don't see a way out." I said, "Hope you don't mind me askin' but why this sense of abandon? You know there are ones who care to ease this burden we bear" Well I call my brother several times a day and my sister, she'll meet me in Coeur d'Alene. There's friends nearby, we'll see how it goes cause staying here, I just won't. So at this bridge we cross wondering do I jump or not If I cross can I return to count up all the lessons learned If crossing's what I've chosen there's a chance to heal what's broken Trust that this'll guide me through and get myself back home to you Well a few days passed and I stopped by thinkin' I'd give us another try Walked though the door, stepped inside. Surprised, we began to cry For just a moment between earth and heaven We held each other for what seemed forever We dry our eyes as she starts to say Say honey, "I just can't go on this way." So at this bridge we cross wondering do I jump or not If I cross can I return to count up all the lessons learned If crossing's what I've chosen there's a chance to heal what's broken Trust that this'll guide me through and get myself back home to you To get myself back home to you To get myself back home to you

Backroads 04:01
Another lap in this rat race Another wild goose chase  Knowin' my life has gone astray Too many friends in a hurry and now  It's got me worried thinkin' it's high time to change   Find a road and I'll leave this town Take it easy, and bum around Play my music, peaceful feelin' comes my way  When it's a "out on the back roads" kind of day    Highway's jammed it's stop and go It's not my way of going slow  Gonna have to find me another way Almost there already know  Inner child says let it flow better get out there n play     Find a road and I'll leave this town Take it easy, and bum around  Play my music, peaceful feelin' comes my way when it's a "out on the back roads" kind of day hey  Out on the back roads to.....    We all feel the pressure To look for something better  With a little help along the way Now you know I won't regret  All the troubles I know I'll forget as I <<huh>> hop in and drive away

Clear skies, open road Wave to those who live by the code Face their fears, lose or win Keeps us pushing around the bend Where we're headed glad you asked Rollin' till we're out of gas 'neath the stars, engines a thunder There's plenty of broken lines to cover The wind calls and clears my mind We've waited for this chance to ride Here with you in the time of my life Livin' life five gallons at a time Ridin hard, crank the fun Miles to go, gettin' it done Can't stop now gotta get goin' Ride to keep these wheels rollin' Call it life, an adventure Be the last thing we remember Here with you in the time of my life Livin' life five gallons at a time It's the journey, not destination Not all sunshine when it's rainin' Here with you in the time of my life Livin' life five gallons at a time

The amber glow of the morning sky reflected off the surface We make our way across the lake in an aged wooden boat adrift Left a gentle wake and my hand you'd take, On a morning day on Sunday. The first of many Sundays. In a week of days that lay ahead I’d watch you in your solace sleep The sun would rise, you'd open your eyes With a glow that would take ahold of me Oh my hungry heart and my yearning soul In a week of Sundays. A week of many Sundays. Time oh time, why does it slip so easily away When you're with me I'd take the moments of the past And the grains of sand that are left Hold em in my hand along with the rest. For at least another year. Another year of Sundays. The tones and shades around us start to take a different look And through the years, its time that's taught us In the choices that we took That it’s better to have and hold and worth a price to pay For a lifetime of love. In a lifetime of Sundays. Time oh time, why does it slip so easily away When you're with me I'd take the moments of the past And the grains of sand that are left And hold them in my hand along with the rest. For at least another year. Another year of Sundays. For a lifetime of love. In a lifetime of Sundays.

He steps inside not sure what he'll find or what is there to greet him A painting of their wedding day in a place he once found comfort Two wooden chairs sit by the hearth old photographs spread on the table Her favorite books stacked in the nook for when they both sought refuge That dusty road he rides alone and keep on ridin’ till he wakens Kicking up the dirt to get back with her to that place he called home The time has come to deal with the hurt and the loneliness that now surrounds him All was lost when she left this house while the memories stay deep inside him Looking to find her only reminders of the anguish he’d see her go through Just weeks before her time to let go her spirit left when he found her That dusty road he rides alone and keep on riding till he wakens Kicking up the dirt to get back with her to that place he called home Now that she's gone he'll keep riding on until he finds a place he calls home

Music in him since his youth The world around him shaped his views  Raised on vintage -- by tradition Hostage to a pop addiction  Took their words, note for note what he heard  Played for his friends every day and they would say    With these songs he pays his dues On the road, same old tunes  Often thinks about something new A sweet country song, some rhythm 'n blues,   But all he knows is in a book he carries round  That's what got him the gigs and in front of the crowds  Pickin' peaches, strummin' blues  He's bound for heaven in a led balloon  Through foggy trees and purple fuzz,   Climb the watchtower feel the buzz  With his guitar he makes them weep  Has everyone on their feet  Home sweet home, birds are free  He's livin' it up and Rockin in Blues Country     Another bar in a different town Up on stage he looks around  About to party with the crowd They're Dancin' drinkin', gettin' loud  Turns up his guitar to give his all  "Here's one more for ya before the "last call"

I knew this was coming I’m feelin’ it in my soul And even in my dreams I Dread every moment Knowing I should let go The time has come to put off facing this deed That will take out my heart And while the tears in my eyes keep runnin’ Thinking what we’ve been through You know that I wish that there were more We could get up and walk out that door Knowing you and I could put off goodbyes today. So here in the waiting Neither knowing what to do Our feelings have gone numb Deep in those eyes Nothing left, no disguise So now my old friend Go ahead and close your eyes I’ll sing a lullaby and try not to cry Or say my goodbyes today No goodbyes today

He’s the one that leads them and is first generation  An overly prepared, meticulous captain Sitting in his chair as he goes through the motions  From inside the wheelhouse, to take on an ocean So much to prove, everything at stake  Command of his vessel, few errors or mistakes Mouse and the Crew, they’ll get the job done  Till the tanks are full, and he says “let’s get goin’” Twenty four seven for several weeks straight  Deckhands and greenhorns, pots loaded with bait Captain keeps em grindin’, And he knows it’s gotta hurt  Tells em “It’s not magic guys, just hard work.” Another red sky as the sun begins risin’ the moon sets quietly, just beyond the horizon But the skipper knows something, gotta pick up the pace  Before the catch becomes deadly, and they all lose the race Forty foot seas, and the ice on deck’s building  Gotta push the crew harder and try and keep things moving Crab in them pots, they’re there for a reason Haul in the treasure and let’s wrap up the season Keeping ahead of those superstitions   That pushes his buttons toward a bad situation Competing with skippers, fighting with brothers Taking on trouble, and knows there’ll be others Finding a balance, walking the line Keep everyone safe, without losing his mind Takin’ them licks, learn all them lessons.  There’s much to be done, the work of a captain.

about

Four years in the making, Rockin’ in Blues Country is a tribute to the musicians that have supported me in my musical endeavors. To Gary Jensen and David Fry who continue to inspire me through their guitars. To Phil Sykes, Brian Mertens and Mark Davis who keep me dancing to the rhythms. To Jerry De Jong and Pat Nason who force me to sing better harmonies. To Arden Acord and Trout Davis for adding a special touch to the band’s sound.

And to my band brothers in the Pacific Northwest, Dan York, Gary Wolcott, and Curt David who keep me rockin’ in the free world, and welcome me back every year. And to my beautiful wife Stella and daughter, Sara too.

Special thanks to my songwriting partner, Bryan Thompson who always comes up with these great musical ideas I can bring to the band and turn it into a song we can call our own. My Arizona-based musician supporters, Jim Bachmann, Jason Wylde and Jenney Pinney who introduced me to the vibrant Phoenix music scene! And to Joel Hatcher and Dennis Weber who helped capture the band’s sound and energy in a way that we could never do on our own. Thanks! I’m livin’ it up and Rockin’ in Blues Country!
