Let's Make it Happen

Four years it's been knocking like bad news at our door
And leave us to wonder if there's shelter from this storm
From morning to nighttime and midnight till dawn
As the world burns all around us can't believe what's going on
The headlines in the paper it really gets me down
The pain and needless suffering people lying dead on the ground
The ones who make decisions with the Russians and their guns
Adding fuel to the fire aren't they the privileged ones
Now's the time for change, let's get past this humiliation
We’ll put a stop to the ones who are causing this shame and frustration
Because we won't go on this way without some answers and some actions
Are you abidin’ on November third. (Get out the vote!)
And let's make it happen
And still it keeps happening another helpless man died
The officers who had killed him silenced his anguished cries
So crowds of people took to the streets they peacefully gathered
Make known to their oppressors that Black Lives Matter
Now's the time for change, let's get past this humiliation
We’ll put a stop to the ones who are causing this shame and frustration
Because we won't go on this way without some answers and some actions
Are you abidin’ on November third. (Get out the vote!)
Let's make it happen

Waiting for Another Sign

Never thought this day would come
to finally say that we’re done
All those times, all those miles
loving, laughing for a long while
Never out looking for more
always feeling reassured
Oh but now all that’s changed
life won’t ever be the same
Not certain why this happened or how things went so wrong
All I have is a message you left me on my phone
And I’ve been standing here all this time waiting for some kind of sign
My patience it’s run dry waiting for you with another sign
How do I live with what’s been done
find a way to carry on
Knowing words that were said
the uncertainty that lies ahead
But for now I should move on
been waiting here for way too long
And I know this fits me fine
to put my heart and soul on the line
Not certain what has happened or how things went so wrong
All I have a message it’s a sign of things to come
And I’ve been standing here all this time waiting for some kind of sign
My patience well it’s run dry waiting for you with another sign
And I’ve been standing here all this time waiting for some kind of sign
And my phone has almost died, waiting for you with another sign

She always loved the road that's what Dad remembers
Sitting high up in her seat waving out the window
Well now she's the driver inside a little scared
Behind the wheel of Momma's car and on her own adventure
Driving to the next town Eastbound on Highway 10
Tonopah then Tucson as the lights come on again
She pulls up to a truck stop a place where she can rest
And read a message from her Momma says
"Love to the moon and back"
The road it calls her heading east no turning back
While Momma worries, Dad waits to hear someday
She’s found a place of comfort
Somewhere along life's highway
Ain't nothing on the radio and it's open road for miles
She dreams of possibilities to help pass the time
El Paso Junction San Antone to a place outside Austin
Leave behind the life she had and start a new one
The road it calls her heading east no turning back
While Momma worries, Dad waits to hear someday
She’s found a place of comfort
Somewhere along life's highway
